The Future of Frugaling

Hi there! I’m Pauline. You may know my other site Reach Financial Independence, I’ve been in the PF world for a few years now.

I am the new owner of Frugaling, and wanted to share my excitement with you about this new project.

What can you expect here from now on? Well, I don’t know yet to be honest. Personal finance, definitely. Random personal musings, I generally tend to publish them on my site.

So will it be me, some staff writers, a mix of both, that remains to be seen, but I wanted to give you a heads up, so you don’t wonder where Sam’s voice went. I hope you’ll like it! Cheers

      Hi Debbi,

All is well with me! Thanks for asking. As a graduate student finishing up a phd and soon-to-be looking for work, I decided it was the right time to sell. Pauline is a wonderful personal finance blogger and I know will continue an awesome legacy!

      Thanks for being a friend,
      Sam

This is very weird. I miss Sam! I’ve never heard of a blog suddenly being bought by another person, esp when the owner doesn’t let his devoted readers know. Bizarre.

That actually is pretty frequent. If you read The Simple Dollar, Get Rich Slowly or Bargaineering for example, they were all sold after a few years.

I feel, to paraphrase Katherine Heigl in the movie 27 Dresses, as if I just found out my favorite love song was written about a sandwich.

          Bette,

Ugh! I feel awful you didn’t get the goodbye you were looking for. That’s on me. As a graduate student, I got overburdened by life’s demands and couldn’t continue writing for now. Pauline is an incredible writer and surely continue this legacy with pride.

Thank you for your support all these years. I couldn’t have done it without people like you.

          Sam

But they original owners of those blogs generally let the readership know a change was happening and some even stayed on as writers. I think we’re talking about a courtesy issue for people who have read a particular writer’s work for a long time. With that said, good luck with the new venture and I look forward to reading your thoughts.

Don’t like surprises. So sad Sam could not take the time to write a good bye to his followers.

Agreed. How much time and effort would it have taken? 🙁

        I agree. It feels rude.

Yes. Rude. Just goes to show, the “relationship” you develop with the writer of a blog isn’t real. It’s business. None of us were ever friends w/ Sam. It just felt that way!

            Hi everyone,

I miss you all a lot. To be honest, I never thought this was business for me. I put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears over the years. Eventually, I realized I was too busy to write on the side for now. Pauline provided me an opportunity to focus on the demands of graduate school. She’s an incredible person in the personal finance community and will continue a terrific legacy.

I most definitely care about your support all these years and wish I could’ve said a better goodbye. You meant a lot!

            Your friend,
            Sam

Whoah. Just saw this. I’ve been reading for 3 years and just stopped by to see what you were up to Sam. We will miss you bro. You were an inspiration in me starting my own PF blog. Best of luck with grad school. My wife just finished her PhD. I can’t imagine having the time to do both, so I respect your decision. Peace
