Increase your income by running your own website

own website make money

One way to become financially independent is to have multiple streams of income. Think about it. If you lost your job tomorrow, how long would you be able to survive on your savings alone? Whereas if you had another source of income bringing you, say, $200 a month on the side, well, you could pay for your groceries, and be less prone to hardship. Five $200 streams of income mean that if one dries up, you would only lose 20% of your income, not 100% like if you only depended on a job. Moreover, when you are trying to save money and build a great financial future for yourself and your family, there is only so much you can save. When you make $1,200 a month, saving $200 is much harder than when you make $1,500, or $2,000. Because you are already used to living on what you currently make, adding a new source of income will allow you to boost your saving, investments, and reach financial independence.

Today, let’s talk about building a website as a new source of income. You have probably seen articles about these Millenials who make six figures a month with their super popular blogs or drop shipping websites, but to be realistic, starting your own website will require a lot of time and effort, and probably just bring in a few hundreds a month. That said, when you consider an income of $300-500, that is the rent you could generate from a small studio, after you invest at least $30,000. With your own website, you can start with virtually nothing, and only spend money once you start making money.

First, you should head over to a site such as Wix, which has a free website builder to make your life easier. You don’t need to know anything about coding, HTML, PHP, using Wix is pretty much as easy as sending an email to someone when you add some text and pictures, make it pretty and click send. Once you have registered in a few click, Wix will take you through all the essential steps to make your website pretty, functional, and attractive to potential customers.

What should your website be about? Well you can go two routes. You can build your own website to attract more customers to an existing business, or you can start a blog and talk about something your are passionate about. With this blog, I talk about things I love, money and how it can buy freedom and choices, so people get empowered and have a great life. Because I am passionate about the topic, I don’t mind writing content regularly. If I had to talk about another topic, it would be a whole other story. So pick your topic carefully. The last thing you want is to shut down a blog after six months of hard work.

Building a website to either sell your products or sell your services seems more appealing, as they take way less time to set up. Wix offers free website templates that give you ample choice of home pages depending on your business, for example online store, restaurant, fashion, and more. You can then edit the pages, and make them truly yours.

Under the restaurant one for instance, Wix offers some great templates for a vegetarian restaurant, a bar, an ice cream parlor, a pizza place, a burger joint, and much more.
The details are on point with the burger corner template having an old diner feel, while the cupcake shop one is all girly and sweet. Once you have picked up the template that is most relevant to your own business, it is time to edit it. Wix makes the template thing straightforward by asking which kind of business you are looking into, as most businesses will have the same requirements. A restaurant will need a category for the menu, one to order online, one for opening hours, etc. But you can also use one of the many add-ons and drag and drop extra features as you please.

Then you click on the different text boxes to make them your own. It is just like editing a Word document, you choose the font, the color, and you update the text. Save, close, and Wix does the magic coding behind it.

Having your own website will allow your customers to find you easily, know all the services you offer, when they can reach you and where. It is paramount for any small business these days, and can add some welcome extra income to your wallet. Even better, at the beginning there is no need to pay a lot of money to get your website online. Wix is free for most of its features, and then you can add the premium ones as you start growing. One option that is worth paying for since the beginning is having your own domain, and probably also an ad free website. But for everything else, you can decide later. And with a site like Wix, no need to hire a web programmer every time you need small adjustments made to your site. Log back in, click on the visual and update it. Are you ready to boost your income streams?

Are you ready for Christmas and a £250 competition?

Just a few weeks to go before Christmas, are you ready? As the countdown is getting real, you want to plan as much as possible for the holidays, to avoid unnecessary last minute stress. It is the season to be happy and enjoy time with your loved ones, not to run around like crazy because you forgot to buy a turkey.

Online shopping can be your friend these days, with many companies guaranteeing a delivery before Christmas. By shopping online, you will not only save time, but also be less tempted to spend on things outside of your Christmas list.

How much are you willing to spend on the whole event?

You should define your Christmas budget beforehand to make sure you don’t go overboard. That should then be split between travelling costs to visit family, gifts, tree, decorations, food, and any other expenses such as chocolates for teachers or wrapping paper. It really adds up!

One way to ease the weight of Christmas is to talk to your family and drastically reduce gift giving. The goal is to be together and have a good time, not stress over debt that will take months to pay off. You can also give a voucher on Christmas for say a new laptop, then wait for the January sales to buy it for your teenager.

You can prepare for Christmas as early as next January, by buying decorations and other paraphernalia at a steep discount. Setting up a savings account for next Christmas is also a great idea. Setting aside just £20 a week will add up to £1,000 fifty weeks later. However, if you are going to charge this Christmas on your credit card, your priority should be getting rid of your balance before you consider saving for next year. Try to get a 0% balance credit card and make payments as often as you possibly can.

Picking up an extra shift at work can help make a little more money before Christmas. Bank holidays are often paid double if you don’t mind the sacrifice.

Be in with the chance of winning £250 with icount!

If you need some extra help with your Christmas budget, icount has a competition that offers up the chance of winning £250! It is going to run from the 1st December until the 31st and the winner will be announced on the 2nd January.

It’s so quick and easy to enter – simply head to icount’s competition and take a look at the many presents under their tree. If you can guess the total cost of them all correctly, you could be the lucky winner of £250 loaded onto an icount prepaid Mastercard. What’s more, you’re free to spend your winnings however you see fit! Good luck!

Is your current Christmas plan going to leave you worse off in 2018?

By Frugaling Leave a Comment

Do you even have a Christmas plan? If you don’t, no need to panic, but with Christmas just a few weeks away, it is time to do so! I find that if I don’t budget for things, it is really easy to go overboard, and while £5 here and £5 there is not really a big deal, small sums add up to the point where you receive your credit card statement and are shocked at all you’ve spent over the holidays.

One thing that is really hard to do is to keep paying for something after the event has passed, like paying interest on your credit card way into the spring because you couldn’t afford Christmas. So first, let’s make a plan. How much can you realistically afford to spend on Christmas? Will you get a Christmas bonus at work? Will you start budgeting now so you don’t have to charge your card?

Christmas is not just about gifts. There is the tree, the decorations, the food, the car costs to go around and see your family… let’s make sure all that fits in your budget. Don’t be afraid to talk to your family about having a low key Christmas. It’s just one day of the year and it’s not worth getting into debt to make it amazing. As a matter of fact, small things like sitting together by the fire telling stories, or playing a game outside are often what you remember from Christmas, not what you ate or the gifts you received.

You can always have your big Christmas next year. If you start planning for that at the beginning of the year, it will be amazing. Save just £25 a week for 48 weeks and you’ll have £1,200 four weeks before Christmas! You can also shop in January for Christmas decorations, wrapping paper and other Christmas themed things like paper towels or gold sprays for a fraction of the cost.

As far as this Christmas is concerned, one good way to keep your budget in check is to go all cash. Withdraw whatever sum you want to spend on Christmas, put it in a special envelope, and once it is empty, that’s it! No more Christmas spending. Start with the essentials, like food and gifts for the kids, then work your way down your list of priorities. Parting with cash is psychologically much harder than swiping your card.

You can also agree with your spouse to gift each other things that will be useful in the new year, such as items of clothing or appliances. I didn’t really like that time I got a backpack from my boyfriend, as I was expecting some jewellery or something romantic, but I ended up using it most days for years, thinking about him when I did.

It all boils down to making Christmas a nice family event. Remember, it’s just one day, so make sure you’re not worse off in 2018 because of it…

How to save money on contact lenses

By Frugaling Leave a Comment

contact lenses

Sometimes it is tricky to determine how much you should spend on health care and on yourself in general. On one hand, you are your most valuable asset, and you deserve the best! On the other hand, we are all on a budget, and if money is tight, you don’t really want to be spending any more than you really have to. Yet, you also want to avoid subpar products when it comes to health! Well good news, you can for example buy contact lenses online, that will be the exact same model as the ones your optician is selling, except that they won’t wear the same brand on the box. Like generic medicine. Your optician purchases them too, then puts their logo on it. When you find out the type and model of contact lenses you are using, you can use a simple online chart and find the equivalent online. That alone should save you quite a bit of money. Furthermore, if you buy a few months worth, you will get a bulk price and save even more.

You can ask your optician to give you a copy of your prescription when you come in for an eye test, and then you are free to shop around for a better deal. And what better place than online, to compare offers and save yourself some time? Be careful, that doesn’t mean that you have to stop going in for check ups. On the contrary, you want to keep doing them as often as your optician recommends, to make sure you keep buying the best type of contact lenses for your vision. You can find stores that do free eye tests, or reach out to the NHS that will provide them for free under certain conditions.

Some opticians will tell you that you can join their scheme and get all your lenses, solutions and check up included for a set monthly fee. While there is a degree of saving with that offer, you are generally going to save even more if you buy your products online, and then attend your check ups on the side. This is not something you want to skimp on, because wearing the wrong contact lenses can really affect your eyes. Just make a note in your phone to remind yourself to make the next appointment and be religious about not missing one. For everything else, find the best rates online and save money.

For more information, visit the website of Vision Direct and check out their selection of eye products. Save 10% off your first order by using the discount code SURPRISE. And, enjoy free delivery on your order over £49.
